Currently a second-term Deputy Mayor of Plovdiv (since 2011). During his second term, he is responsible for education and business development. He actively participates in the development and the positioning of Trakia Economic Zone as a leading space for international investments. In 2012, he established the Business Development Division of Plovdiv Municipality that works actively for the attraction and for the support of the investors in the region. Spheres of priority for Plovdiv are mechanical engineering, automotive manufacturing, information technologies and export of business processes. For the period of 5 years, the Business Development Division participates directly in the opening of more than 5000 new work spaces and in the attraction of numerous investments in Plovdiv and the region. Together with his team, Mr. Stoyanov has prepared a complete conception for the popularization of the city as an investment destination and for the attraction of strategic investors.

During his work, he actively participates in a number of innovative educational reforms such as the establishment of Educational-Industrial Board, that aims to involve business into vocational education and the introduction of the dual education and others.

Advocates for a series of educational reforms such as the introduction of the Montessori pedagogy to the public kindergartens and schools, the introduction of G-Suite and Windows 365 to schools, the initiation of the Innovative Schools Program, the start of the development of the dual education into vocational schools and others.

At the end of 2016, due to his work on reforms in education, he has been awarded as one of the top 100 innovators from Central and Eastern Europe according to the prestigious ranking of Goolge, the Visegrad Fund and the Financial Times.
